About The Campaign
Help support Rs. 5000 per month for 6 months starting May 2020, for over 100 families of artistes across India affected by COVID-19.
Imagine a land with no music, dance, theatre, performing arts!
The COVID-19 pandemic, ensuing lockdown and social distancing has severely impacted artistes, instrument makers, teachers of music and dance across the country. Many freelance artistes who earned their livelihoods through performances and regular engagements face the uncertainty of when and how they will be able to earn again. With no savings, meagre resources, and in many cases several dependents, the coming months present a bleak future for them.
A small group of independent artistes and individuals working with the arts namely, Aneesh Pradhan (musician and scholar) , Arundhati Ghosh (cultural practitioner), Mona Irani (producer & casting director), Rahul Vohra (actor, director & arts consultant), Sameera Iyengar (cultural practitioner) and Shubha Mudgal (musician) has come up with a plan to raise Rs. 35 lakhs through a campaign titled ADAA (Assistance for Disaster Affected Artistes).
- This amount will provide over 100 families of artistes and individuals working in the field of performing arts with a monthly assistance of Rs.5000 for the next 6 months, to cover costs of basic rations and provisions for their families. Each family will therefore receive Rs. 30,000 spread over 6 months starting May 2020.
- The beneficiaries will be selected by 10 arts organisations working at grassroots level in 10 states of India. These On Ground partners include Jana Sanskriti (West Bengal), Imphal Talkies (Manipur), Samudaya (Karnataka), Assam Cultural Academy (Assam) Sanatkada Trust (Uttar Pradesh), Pehchaan (Rajasthan), Yalgaar Sanskrutik Manch (Maharshtra), Chennai Kalai Kuzhu (Tamil Nadu), Nrityanjali Academy (Telangana) . Each organisation will select at least 10 artiste beneficiaries from their state.
- The money will be transferred to the individual bank accounts of the selected artistes by our Distribution Partner, Indian Writers Forum, a public charitable trust established to discuss issues of concern to writers, educators and cultural practitioners, and offer support to individuals in the academic and cultural fraternity (www.indianculturalforum.in).
- Your contributions to this campaign are exempt under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act in India. Certificates will be sent via email.
- Details of beneficiaries will be made available to donors on request.
We understand that at this point there are many people who need our support. Please do keep artistes in mind and contribute as much as you can. Do also share our campaign with friends.
